A little bit about your instructor...
Laura McCune
Laura McCune first started playing golf when she was 9 years old. Her father introduced her to the game by registering her for a junior golf tournament which she lost by one stroke, and from there, her passion for the game was solidified. In high school Laura and her golf team went to the Illinois state championship 1979-1982, and won in 1980. After being redshirted her freshman year in college on the golf team, Laura walked on to the softball and basketball teams, became an All-American in both, and then inducted into the Southern Illinios University at Edwardsville athletic Hall of Fame. Laura received a bachelor of Science in business and while working on her Masters in Public Health from the University of Illinois, Laura was asked to instruct at a new indoor driving range. She immediately realized this was her passion, and after almost 30 years of teaching, it is still her passion.

Her teaching philosophy states, “golf is a sport people of any shape, size, gender, age, or physical ability can play. Lessons are designed to complement the student’s strengths, and concentrated on those aspects the student would like to most improve on. Because no two golfers are exactly alike; lessons are centered around the student’s own unique physical characteristics and capabilities, personality, and understanding of the concepts. In a relaxed and uncomplicated manner, the student will acquire the knowledge and tools necessary to improve their golf swing fundamentals and the components of proper technique.”

Laura started her career in golf instruction as the head teaching professional at Mulligans Indoor Driving Range and the Oaks Golf Course in Springfield, IL. In 2004 she moved to Edwardsville, IL to teach at the Legacy Golf Course and Goshen Driving Range. In 2008 she was asked to teach all junior and adult golf clinics for Lewis And Clark Community College, and following her passion for teaching, in 2014 she moved to The First Tee Driving Range and Pheasent Run golf course in Missouri which continues to this day.

Currently, Laura is working on some notable projects including the Missouri Society of Health and Physical Educators (MOShape), developing a curriculum to teach the teachers to teach the golf swing and the game of golf, and Washington University organizing a golf curriculum for student-athletes.

"I was referred to Laura by a friend to assist my son with golf lessons. Laura has far exceeded our expectations and been a positive influence on my son. Laura is great with Hunter and has the patience and knowledge to help him improve his golf game. She is able to make adjustments in his swing and teach him how to handle himself in different situations which has brought about great improvement. Hunter had his first golf tournament of the season and got 1st place in his age group. I can tell a difference Hunter's game but also his attitude and I can attribute that to Laura's great technique in how she instructs each of her students."

"At my first communication (via phone) with Laura McCune, I felt happy and relieved to have found someone anxious to meet me and help with my golf swing; she immediately accommodated my request and fit me into her busy schedule. Upon meeting Laura in person, I felt even better! She immediately put me at ease as she analyzed my swing. Her outstanding (and I cannot emphasize that too much!) diagnostic skills were quite evident as she observed my swing and offered a number of beneficial corrections necessary to accomplish the overall improved swing. (I was so impressed with her diagnostic skills that, to my second lesson, I brought two more family members for lessons with Laura!) All along, Laura was a very skilled golf instructor who utilized numerous techniques and various drills to modify my less efficient swing that I'd ingrained over many years. Nevertheless, Laura was consistently understanding , kind, and gentle in delivery of her directives; she was genuinely interested in my improvement. Having to make a number of changes in my swing, I knew that things might get worse before they would get better. And that did happen. As I practice twice a daily, I'm now experiencing slightly increasing positive results of the swing changes in my game play. Laura ALWAYS makes me fell better as she reinforces the benefit of my practice ethics and desire to improve. Laura is simply the BEST: I am so happy I found her!!!"
